Mad River Boat Trips offers daily whitewater trips on two types of rafts. You can even join us for dinner on the river when you select our famous Riverside Steak or Trout Cookout trip- prepared and served at our own riverside dining site, overlooking the two largest rapids on the river.
All Mad River whitewater river runs are U-Paddle trips and are accompanied by experienced, highly-trained river guides.

The 8-Mile Whitewater

The classic whitewater experience down the Grand Canyon of the Snake River. It doesn't take all day, but you'll wish it did. This is the whitewater experience you've been waiting for - we guarantee it will be one you remember for a lifetime.

BOAT TYPE: This trip features our standard size raft. The raft is an AIRE inflatable, self-bailing, 18'3" raft. It seats 16 people but we average just 10 to 12 guests per boat. There are non-paddling and paddling positions in this raft. All participants should be able to paddle on this trip. Your guide will rely on the passengers to power the raft so everyone should be physically fit and ready for a challenge. On a small boat, you can expect to get wet, no matter where you sit in the raft.

This trip starts west of Jackson and winds its way south through braided river channels and sand bars of the Snake River. This 13-mile scenic stretch is home to an array of natural wonders unlike anywhere else on earth and the opportunity to view them all in one place is extremely rare. The final leg of your trip takes you through the famous Snake River Canyon, known for the dramatic scenery and wild whitewater. River running on the Snake River dates back to the 1800's and your guide will share the history as well as the geology and ecology that make the Snake River unique. Launching from the Wilson Bridge Boat Ramp, you'll travel 13 miles south. You'll pause and enjoy a hot breakfast sandwich for brunch before finishing out the scenic section and returning to our boat house. A break back at the Mad River Boathouse lets you change into your whitewater apparel and put away binoculars and cameras not suited for your whitewater adventure.

BOAT TYPE: Boat size will vary depending on which trip you choose. Whitewater folks will raft in an 18'3" AIRE inflatable. We can accommodate 16 guests in each boat, but put 10-12 guests per boat on average. For scenic floats, we use a 15'6" AIRE inflatable which can accommodate 6-8 people.

Our head wrangler will match the horse and rider according to ability, physical requirements and horse temperament.
CHECK-IN & TRANSPORTATION: Goosewing Ranch provides pickups at locations in town and at Teton Village. Let us know where you are staying and we'll let you know where you need to meet. Mad River will return you to your vehicle or your hotel at the end of the day.
RAFT TRIP DETAILS: Located in the Gros Ventre Wilderness and Bridger Teton National Forest areas, our horseback partner, Goosewing Ranch offers an exclusive opportunity for horseback trips into some of the most pristine country in the Jackson Hole area. Trips often provide exceptional opportunities to see wildlife, and each ride is guided by an experienced horseman. Rides are limited in size to small groups to guarantee a true wilderness experience. Goosewing caters to all riding levels, and horseback trips are grouped according to rider ability.
Following your horseback trip, Goosewing Ranch will transport you to Mad River for your whitewater or scenic rafting check-in. We have changing rooms and bathrooms available to you. Your valuables and extra gear can be stored at Mad River or can accompany you and be stored safely on the bus while you raft. Mad River will transport you back to your hotel following your whitewater or scenic river trip.
